"Walking on the Beach"

by Lucille Lever© 2009

When I walk on the sand on the beach, I love to walk in the footprints of other people.  It is such fun.  Sometimes I have to jump to reach the next step, and sometimes I tread in the footprints of small children so that I am almost walking on tiptoes.

I enjoy writing messages on wet sand.  You can write anything and then watch the waves cover the writing many times till it's all gone.

I love collecting shells and small pieces of coral.  I fill up my hat with the collection and show my friends the things that I find when I go to school.

It's fun to sit with closed eyes and just listen - to the sea, the shouting people, the gulls, and distant sounds.  You feel as if you are floating in the sky.

But the thing I like most is pretending I am alone, having the freedom to walk wherever I want, yet knowing, all the time, that my whole family is sitting close by under their red and green umbrella.

Write about a visit to the beach or times that you like to be alone.
